calendar_month 16 Sep 2024 / stylus นางสาวฮานะ ชิลไปไหน / visibility 192,467 / overseas

Tokyo, the metropolis of Japan and a popular city for tourists. Tokyo is a city that has everything, it's the economic center, full of shopping areas, places to visit, and many places to stay. Today, Chillpainai will pin 30 places to visit in Tokyo, Japan. Where should you go in Tokyo? The latest update, follow and see the review.

HIGHLIGHT

A collection of Tokyo tourist spots for those who want to travel to Tokyo by themselves to plan their trip. There are theme parks, shopping spots, viewpoints, temples, and many more that are worth checking in.

1.Shibuya

If you're heading to Tokyo, the first spot you absolutely can't miss is Shibuya's famous scramble crossing. It's one of the busiest intersections in the world, and every time the light turns red, you’ll see thousands of people crossing from all directions. It’s wild, but somehow it works perfectly—kind of like a dance, just everyone going in different ways.

Shibuya is not just about the crossing, though. It's a super lively area full of shopping, dining, and tons of trendy spots. And speaking of landmarks, you've got to check out the Hachikō statue—the one of the loyal dog who waited for his owner every day. It’s a popular meeting spot for both locals and tourists. If you're ever in Shibuya and worried about getting lost, just meet at Hachikō, and you'll be good to go!

So, if you want to experience a classic slice of Tokyo, swing by Shibuya Crossing, feel the pulse of the city, and then chill by the Hachikō statue. It’s a must-do experience!

2.SHIBUYA SKY

Shibuya Sky is a rooftop observation deck located in the SHIBUYA SCRAMBLE SQUARE building, which just opened in 2019. It's super easy to get to since it’s right next to Shibuya Station. Once you arrive, take the elevator to the 14th floor to buy your ticket at the counter for 2,000 yen, or if you prefer, you can book it online for 1,800 yen. After that, hop back on the elevator and head up to the 46th floor.

The elevator ride is pretty cool, with graphics and music to set the vibe. When the elevator doors open, you’ll need to walk up an escalator to get to the rooftop. Just a heads-up though—you're not allowed to wear a hat or bring bags up there, but no worries, there are lockers available to store your things (and you'll get your deposit back).

Once your stuff is stored, it’s time to head up to the rooftop. From there, you get a 360-degree view of Tokyo from 229 meters high. On a clear day, you might even catch a glimpse of Mount Fuji. There are some great photo spots up top, like a cozy sofa and netted seating. If you come at night, the view is even more magical with all the lights. The whole vibe is super romantic, and the lighting makes it even more special.

It's definitely one of those spots where you’ll want to hang out, relax, and take in the stunning cityscape!

3.Miyashita Park

After soaking in the stunning views of Tokyo, we made our way to the next spot—Miyashita Park. It’s the perfect place for people of all ages. The park is conveniently located near Shibuya Station, and you can walk there from Shibuya Scramble Square in about 7 minutes. It’s not just a park—it’s a whole experience with a mix of restaurants, shopping malls, and even a rooftop public park. Plus, if you're in the mood for something casual, there are plenty of izakayas (Japanese pubs) to grab a drink and relax in. Whether you're just strolling around or looking to hang out, Miyashita Park has something for everyone!

4.Shinjuku

Shinjuku is another area that combines all kinds of entertainment, from shopping and dining to bars and izakayas. And recently, there’s a new and super cute spot to check out in Shinjuku—the giant cat! It appears on a 3D screen, and it looks incredibly real. The cat pops up every 5 to 10 minutes, so you can just stand there and wait for the perfect shot. If you're heading to see the cat, make sure to pin Cross Shinjuku Vision on Google Maps!

5.Shinjuku Gyoen

Next up, we’re heading to another lovely park right in the heart of Tokyo—Shinjuku Gyoen. This park is super popular for sakura viewing, especially since it has 12 different types of cherry blossoms. Whether you’re into white or pink sakura, this place has it all. Despite being surrounded by the hustle and bustle of Shinjuku, this park feels like an oasis where you can relax, take a breather, and sit under the cherry trees. It’s a favorite spot for both tourists and locals during hanami season, when people gather to enjoy the cherry blossoms.

If you’re planning to visit for the sakura, I’d recommend going towards the end of March to catch the full bloom. But even if it’s not cherry blossom season, the park is still a great place to just chill. The atmosphere is peaceful, with both Western-style and Japanese-style gardens, plus a greenhouse full of tropical plants to explore.

6.Omoide Yokocho

From the modern hustle of Shinjuku, we’re taking you back in time to the Showa era with a little alley called Omoide Yokocho. It’s one of our favorite spots in Tokyo. This area really captures the vibe of an old-school Showa-era drinking district, almost like stepping into the movie Always: Sunset on Third Street. Along both sides of the alley, you'll find tons of cozy izakayas to sit and enjoy, making it a classic and nostalgic experience.

7.Ueno

Another area that Thai tourists know well is Ueno. There’s a market called Ameyoko where you can shop, eat, and buy souvenirs. At night, it transforms into a street filled with affordable bars and eateries, giving you the same vibe as Khao San Road. It gets especially crowded on Fridays and Saturdays. In addition to being a popular shopping district for Thai visitors, Ueno also has Ueno Park, which is another stunning spot to see cherry blossoms in full bloom. Besides that, there’s a zoo, temples, and museums to check out as well.

8.Takeya Building

Another great place for souvenirs and affordable items is the Purple Building, or Takeya Building, which is located not far from the Ueno area—it's just a short walk away. They also offer tax refunds, making it super convenient for tourists. Recently, they've opened a new building, TAKEYA1, which features snacks, souvenirs, and cosmetics all in one place. The older building, TAKEYA3, focuses on fashion items, clothing, and watches. If you're looking for cheap snacks and souvenirs in Tokyo, make sure to pin the Purple Building on your map!

9.Odaiba

If you’re wondering which place in Tokyo is romantic and perfect for a date, I’d definitely recommend Odaiba. This man-made island is easy to reach by taking the Yurikamome line or the Tamagawa line from Shimbashi Station, and getting off at Daiba Station. Once you're there, you can stroll along the skywalk, which connects shopping malls, hotels, and offers a breathtaking view of Tokyo Bay. The iconic Rainbow Bridge in the background, connecting Tokyo to Odaiba, is stunning, and you can also see the beautiful Tokyo Tower lit up at night. A walk here is sure to make you fall even more in love with the person you're with.

Another highlight of Odaiba is the Unicorn Gundam in front of the DiverCity Mall. It’s usually got a show every 30 minutes between 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM, where it transforms in a grand display. Unfortunately, when we visited, the Gundam was under maintenance until November 24, 2022, but if you visit after that, you’re definitely in for an unforgettable show!

10.Sensoji Temple

Asakusa is a well-known area in Tokyo, home to the famous Senso-ji Temple. Many visitors to Tokyo stop by to take a photo with the large red lantern at the temple gate, which has become a popular landmark. For those looking to avoid crowds, it’s best to visit before 8 a.m., as it tends to get very busy later in the day.

In front of the temple is Nakamise Street, which is lined with shops offering souvenirs, traditional snacks, and various local foods.

The area also features a well-known matcha ice cream shop, said to serve one of the strongest matcha flavors in the world. Other nearby attractions include the Asahi Beer Hall, Tokyo Skytree, and the Sumida River, which offer additional spots for sightseeing and photography.

11.Tokyo Skytree

Tokyo Skytree is the tallest structure in Japan, standing at 634 meters. It opened to the public in 2012 and is tall enough that, on a clear day, you can even see Mount Fuji from its observation decks.

There are two main observation areas: the Tembo Deck at 350 meters and the Tembo Galleria at 450 meters. Besides offering breathtaking panoramic views, Tokyo Skytree is also home to over 300 restaurants and fashion stores, making it a great spot not only for sightseeing but also for dining and shopping.

If you’re looking for a great spot to photograph Tokyo Skytree and the Asahi Beer Hall by the Sumida River, we recommend visiting Sumida Park. It’s located right along the river, which flows through the heart of Tokyo, and offers beautiful riverside views that are perfect for photos. In spring, it’s also a popular spot for cherry blossom viewing.

Getting there is easy — just take the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line or the Toei Asakusa Line to Asakusa Station. From Exit 4, turn right and cross the street, and you’ll find yourself at Sumida Park in no time.

13.Tokyo Tower

Next up is Tokyo Tower — once the tallest structure in the city. Although it’s since been surpassed by Tokyo Skytree, Tokyo Tower still holds a timeless charm. Especially at night, when it’s beautifully illuminated, the tower stands out as a stunning landmark against the city skyline.

Built after World War II, Tokyo Tower came to symbolize hope and recovery for Japan during a difficult time in its history. More than just an observation tower, it represents resilience and the country's journey toward a brighter future.

For a breath of fresh air in the middle of Tokyo, head to Meiji Jingu Shrine, located in the Shibuya district near the youthful Harajuku neighborhood and the upscale shopping street Omotesando. Amid the city’s busy energy, stepping into Meiji Jingu feels like time stands still.

This historic Shinto shrine, surrounded by a lush forest covering over 700,000 square meters, was built in 1920 to honor the spirits of Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken. If you’re looking for a peaceful escape and a chance to experience a quieter side of Tokyo, Meiji Jingu is the perfect spot.

22.Oi Racecourse Flea Market

If you love second-hand shopping, don’t miss the Oi Racecourse Flea Market. We were lucky to visit just as it was happening! The market usually takes place on weekends, Saturday and Sunday, but it may be canceled if it rains. You can check the schedule for this and other events in Tokyo on the website Tokyocheapo.

Getting to the Oi Racecourse Flea Market is easy — just take the Tokyo Monorail to Oikeibajo-Mae Station. When you exit the station, turn left and look for the sign pointing to Oi Horse Racecourse. Follow the pedestrian bridge and walk along the road; you’ll pass the racecourse entrance, and shortly after, near the parking lot, you’ll find the flea market.

We recommend arriving early since it’s open from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. When we arrived around 1 p.m., most vendors were already packing up, which was a shame because this market is a treasure trove for second-hand lovers. You might even find a Gucci bag for just a few hundred yen!

23.Nezu Shrine

Nezu Shrine is a historic shrine dating back to around 1705. Inside, you’ll find rows of torii gates similar to those at Fushimi Inari Shrine in Kyoto, though not as many. The shrine is also famous for its beautiful azalea gardens, which bloom spectacularly each year. The annual Azalea Festival is usually held around April, making it a great time to visit.

24.Tokyo Disneyland

One of the top tourist attractions is definitely Tokyo Disneyland, which actually consists of two parks: Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea. Each park has its own unique theme — Tokyo DisneySea features a sea-inspired design and opened after Disneyland.

Though not located within Tokyo itself, both parks are in nearby Chiba Prefecture and are easy to reach. You can take the JR train to Maihama Station, then transfer to the Disney Resort Line to get to Tokyo Disneyland or DisneySea.

Just stepping into either park feels like entering a magical kingdom filled with joy. There are numerous shows, parades, and exciting rides spread across seven themed areas: World Bazaar, Tomorrowland, Toontown, Fantasyland, Critter Country, Westernland, and Adventureland — enough to keep you entertained all day long.

Plus, there are several resorts where you can stay, making it easy to fully enjoy the Disney experience.

25.WARNER BROS. STUDIO TOUR TOKYO

One of the hottest new attractions in Tokyo right now is the Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo — The Making of Harry Potter. It’s a magical experience for fans of the series, letting you explore incredibly realistic sets and scenes straight from the movies.

You can wander through the Hogwarts dining hall, the moving staircases in the student dormitories, the common rooms and bedrooms of each house, various classrooms, the Potions room, and even the Forbidden Forest. Outside, there’s a recreated version of Hagrid’s hut and a Butterbeer shop where you can keep your souvenir mug.

Other highlights include the grand Ministry of Magic, Platform 9¾ with the iconic trolley, and the Hogwarts Express train you can actually board. The spectacular Diagon Alley is a must-see — a wizarding shopping street recreated in stunning detail.

If you’re a Harry Potter fan, this place will truly fulfill your dreams. Even if you’re not a die-hard fan but have seen the movies, you’ll still enjoy this immersive and enchanting studio tour.

26.Kuramae

28.Shibamata

Shibamata is a charming neighborhood in Tokyo that we highly recommend visiting at least once — it’s truly unforgettable. To get there, take the Keisei train from Keisei-Ueno Station to Shibamata Station. It’s just a 29-minute ride and costs only 270 yen.

Right outside the station, you’ll see a statue of a man in a suit and hat holding a briefcase, seemingly bidding farewell to a woman across the street. This statue honors Kiyoshi Atsumi, a beloved Japanese actor who played Torajiro Kuruma, or “Tora-san,” in the long-running film series Otoko wa Tsurai yo (“It’s Tough Being a Man”). The series, with 48 installments, is very dear to Japanese people, and Shibamata was the main filming location.

Even if you haven’t seen the series, the nostalgic, retro atmosphere of Shibamata is easy to connect with. Walking through the streets feels like stepping back in time, with old-fashioned candy shops and traditional sweet stores that bring back childhood memories. Despite being from different countries, the shared feeling of nostalgia makes the area easy to appreciate.

Plus, there are plenty of sweet treats to try while you explore!

For those looking for a trekking spot in Tokyo, Mount Takao is highly recommended. It’s a popular hiking destination, and from central Tokyo, it takes only about 55 minutes by train to get there.

There are various trails to choose from, ranging from easy to challenging levels. If you prefer a more relaxed experience, there’s also a chair-style cable car that lets you enjoy the surrounding nature up close.
